Acupuncture

Acupuncture is the insertion of fine needles into the body at specific acupuncture points. Specific acupuncture points are selected by the practitioner depending on your Chinese medicine diagnosis. There are more than 1000 known acupuncture points.

The needles used in acupuncture are super fine needles. They’re similar in size to a single strand of hair.

Once inserted, the needles are left for 10 to 40 minutes depending on the type of acupuncture treatment. During this time you can close your eyes or sleep while the acupuncture takes effect.

Our patient’s comfort is paramount to our acupuncture treatments. We administer acupuncture needles with your feedback during the session.

If you’re sensitive to needles or anxious about your acupuncture session, we can adjust the treatment according to your requirements. All of our gentle acupuncture sessions are 1-on-1, and tailored specifically to your goals and conditions in mind.

Acupuncture practices are regulated by the Australian Health Practitioners Regulation Agency (AHPRA). Registered practitioners are required to have completed a minimum 4-year degree, over 600 hours of clinical supervision and continuing professional development and training. Due to the risks involved, we do not recommend any acupuncture treatments from unregistered practitioners.

Brunswick Acupuncture is registered with AHPRA and we prioritise ongoing development with experts in the US and Taiwan. We have over 17 years experience in acupuncture and Chinese medicine. While other acupuncture clinics may offer additional techniques such as moxibustion or cupping, we solely focus on acupuncture treatments. We strongly believe this emphasis ensures that we deliver advanced techniques and treatments that are grounded in the latest evidence and research.

Chinese Herbs

Chinese herbs and acupuncture go hand in hand and form an important component of many of our sessions at Brunswick Acupuncture.

Chinese herbs are rarely prescribed singularly, but rather as formulas containing as many as 20 different herbs. Herbal supplements are based on careful Chinese Medicine diagnosis by the practitioner. Supplements are therefore unique to each individual’s conditions and requirements.

At our practice, herbal supplements can be provided in capsule form or as granules that are dissolved in water. The form that the herbal supplement takes is dependent on your treatment.

No endangered species or unethical products are used in our herbal supplements. There are no problems with vegetarian and vegan requirements with the herbal supplements we provide. If you have any concerns, don’t hesitate to let us know during your appointment.

Dietary and Lifestyle

We take a holistic approach that works alongside your other health providers and incorporates Chinese Medicine nutritional advice and lifestyle prescriptions. People who come to our practice with an external diagnosis take an assessment using Chinese medicine principles. Our practitioners then take into account any medical diagnosis, your medical history, along with your Chinese Medicine assessment and your feedback during your session with us.

At each individual session, we discuss with you dietary or lifestyle techniques within our framework of Chinese Medicine. With over 17 years experience in Chinese Medicine, we find that these take-home techniques are a great way to get the most out of your sessions with us. They’re tailored to your individual situation, with adjustments according to your session with us.
